  1. The first performance was by Brady Richards at Northwestern University in May of 2013. Phoenix Song was originally the second movement of the clarinet concerto, Bennu’s Fire, which is inspired by the life cycle of the mythical Phoenix bird and was commissioned and premiered by Alexander Fiterstein. Phoenix Song was arranged, by the composer, for clarinet and string quartet in 2011, shortly after the concerto was written.
